In celebration of PTA Founders Day (National PTA's 116th Birthday, this year!), TMS PTSA has selected MR. DAVE HINRICHS . He is a deserving recipient who epitomizes what our PTA Founders’ were putting in place, when they understood the power of individual action, to promote the welfare of children and youth in home, school, community, and place of worship. Mr. Hinrichs organizes and promotes during his own time three clubs at TMS: Advisor of our Student Venture Club which meets weekly during lunch. He helps to promote through the teaching of god, changes in the lives of our young people and the world around them. Helping them to develop the tools to acquire and maintain healthy and growing relationships at home and in life. Advisor of our Astronomy Club which meets regularly, after dark and involves TMS students, their families and the community. Providing telescopes to gaze at the stars and encourage students to want to learn more about space science. Advisor of our Morning Announcement Club. Overseeing the students broadcast live on TV to the entire school, upcoming events and school information needed to know for the day. Important benefits that this club provides is building confidence and communication skills. Mr. Hinrichs has provided instructional aide to TMS PTSA in taping and editing the Parent Toolkit Session that will be on the PTSA website soon. He's also always willing to assist PTSA in preparing information slides to announce events. Giving of his own time countless hours before, during, and after school shows that Mr. Hinrichs is truly about engaging our children. Always willing to help and teach, he is a positive role model.

ENERGY BALANCE IS THE KEY TO WELLNESS

Most of us make periodic resolutions throughout life that include a better diet and/or exercise program. The importance of maintaining a healthy diet and getting regular exercise should begin early in life in order to keep a body healthy as an adult. Training our children in good eating and exercise habits now may help them continue this pattern throughout life and hopefully avoid serious disease and illness. It’s never too late to get started on a healthy diet and exercise program! What is energy balance? ENERGY IN. ENERGY OUT. It’s all about finding the right balance between what you eat and how you move to maintain an active, healthy lifestyle. ENERGY IN: RED, BLUE, GREEN, YELLOW AND ORANGE ! Look for creative ways to add MORE fruits and vegetables to your day aiming for 5 – a – day. RED – Red apples are good for your heart. (Apples have soluble fiber that can lower cholesterol and sugar levels in your blood. Eat an apple a day.) Blue – Blueberries are good for your brain. (Studies show that eating blueberries may improve your memory and ability to learn. Other foods that are good for your brain include salmon, nuts and avocados.) Green – Broccoli is good for your eyes. (Other foods that help keep your eyes healthy include spinach, peas and zucchini.) Yellow and Orange – Yellow and orange are good for all over. (Yellow and orange fruits and vegetables help boost your immune system which helps to keep you from getting sick.) ENERGY OUT: Walk, run, or ride!! Be active. Stay on the move. Whether in yourathletic shoesor on your bike, it’s good to be on the go.
ATTENTION PARENTS OF 7TH GRADE GIRLS AND 8TH GRADE BOYS

As of October 2011, TVUSD has suspended the postural scoliosis screening for 7th grade girls and 8th grade boys. It is important for children to obtain a spinal screening at the beginning of their adolescent growth spurt, usually at 10 to 14 years of age. Parents should request a scoliosis screening, to evaluate for abnormal curvature of the spine, during their child’s annual physical examination or routine doctor’s visit. Undetected scoliosis may cause serious medical issues throughout life.

Mrs. Silvasy, Pillowcase Pals Advisor and Home Economics Teacher, is asking for fabric donations. The club is in need of 1 yard or more lengths in cotton or cotton blends suitable for pillowcases, nothing glittery or bumpy. Prints should be youth related or can be patriotic for our troops. Over the past three years the club has created over 500 pillowcases with the generous help of the Temecula community for children with major life threatening illnesses and for troops serving our Country. Please bring any donations to TMS in care of Mrs. Silvasy. Mrs. Silvasy can be contacted via or by phone at 951/302-5151. Your continued support is greatly appreciated!
